Special Issue on ChatGPT in Education June 07, 2023

We are delighted to announce a special issue of the International Journal of Technology in Education (IJTE) - www.ijte.net dedicated to exploring the implications of ChatGPT, a powerful generative AI tool, in the field of education. The introduction of ChatGPT in education has sparked debates about its potential implications for education. While advocates of ChatGPT praise its ability to support education for instance in terms of providing adaptive and personalised environments, there are some concerns about the ethical considerations of ChatGPT, as well as its potential negative effects on assessment practices, scientific integrity, and students’ higher-order thinking skills (Farrokhnia et al., 2023). Therefore, it is essential to understand how to best utilize this novel AI tool in education to enhance current practices. This special issue aims to convene researchers, educators, and practitioners to share insights, research findings, and innovative approaches related to the use of ChatGPT in educational settings.

We invite submissions of original research papers with robust conceptual and theoretical contributions and/or rigorous empirical designs using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed approaches to investigate the integration of ChatGPT in education. We encourage studies conducted in various educational contexts, including K-12 and higher education, to provide a comprehensive understanding of the potential applications and challenges of ChatGPT across different levels of education.

Authors are invited to explore a wide range of topics, including, but not limited to:

  • Personalized learning experiences and adaptive instruction using ChatGPT
  • Leveraging ChatGPT for individualized feedback and support
  • ChatGPT's role in facilitating student engagement and motivation
  • Collaborative learning and group interactions facilitated by ChatGPT
  • ChatGPT's impact on student autonomy and agency in the learning process
  • Fostering creativity and problem-solving skills through ChatGPT
  • Project-based and experiential learning with ChatGPT
  • Assessing the impact of ChatGPT on learning outcomes
  • ChatGPT for formative and summative assessment in educational contexts
  • Evaluation and assessment methods leveraging ChatGPT for feedback
  • Peer-feedback and peer-assessment using ChatGPT
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of ChatGPT-generated content in education
  • Language learning and translation support with ChatGPT
  • Innovative pedagogical strategies for integrating ChatGPT in classrooms
  • Teacher training and professional development for effective utilization of ChatGPT
  • Ethical considerations in the use of ChatGPT in education
  • Addressing bias and inclusivity challenges in ChatGPT-based education
  • ChatGPT and its implications for educational policy and practice

We encourage authors to provide evidence-based insights, empirical studies, and/or theoretical frameworks that contribute to our understanding of ChatGPT's effective integration in education. All submitted manuscripts will undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the quality and relevance of the published articles.
